• Orientals are readily available throughout the year.
• White, mid pink and hot pink colours are some common varieties, while the pale pink flowers are not as common.
• Different coloured Oriental lilies will open differently. Some lilies form a gorgeous cup-trumpet shape as they open, while others open flat and wide (especially the pale pink colours and a variety called Metro star).
• Generally, the varieties of lilies that open like a trumpet form are preferred as they allow for a superior shape of bouquet to be created.
• Sometimes stimulating the flowers to bloom at the correct time cam be a challenge. When we purchase lilies they are generally closed and we need to have them in the shop earlier so they have ample time to bloom.
• While lilies are opening we collect their stamens to avoid staining the petals.
• Lilies take between 5 to 10 days to fully bloom. During summer, lilies bloom more quickly than in the cooler months where they may take up to 10 days to bloom.
• To encourage the flowers to open there are a few tricks such as recutting the stems often to help the stems take up water easily and allowing them to sit in lukewarm water in a warm room.
• Lilies are beautiful and flamboyant, by choosing the perfect bloom, a well constructed bouquet will easily last the enquire day without any concerns.
